Local business guidance
Government Office Hours
Czech public authorities observe official public days (úřední dny) on Mondays and Wednesdays with full service hours, while Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays have restricted hours or operate by appointment.
Holiday Trading Restrictions
Under Act No. 223/2016 Coll., retail stores exceeding 200 square meters must remain closed on seven specific public holidays, including New Year's Day, Easter Monday, and Christmas Day.
Lunch Specials and Kitchen Hours
Restaurants across Prague serve discounted daily lunch menus (denní menu) between 11:00 and 14:00. Evening dining kitchens frequently stop taking food orders around 21:30 or 22:00.
Banking and Payment Systems
Standard bank branches close on weekends, but branches located inside major shopping centers like Palladium operate on Saturdays and Sundays. Contactless card payments are widely accepted across the city.
Weekend Retail Flexibility
Unlike neighboring Austria or Germany, Sunday shopping is customary in Prague. Malls, supermarkets, and city center boutiques maintain regular weekend hours.
